Tweetake
Recently Twitter stopped allowing you to go back farther than 10 pages in your archive. This has become a whee bit of an issue for myself and others alike that keep their timeline as a place of personal history caching. Think of it as a more practical and less Laura Ingles Wilder format of a diary.
Well, since we can all only go back a few pages now, instead of the 21829734198237 pages some of us have of our tweets how do we make sure we don’ t lose our Captain’s Log? Tweetake, duh! This handy little application takes a snap shot of your Twitter timeline and provides you, the avid Tweeter, a snazzy little CSV file with your timeline in it.
Problem? It’s limited about as much as Twitter is, in terms of how far back it can go. But that’s not their fault, blame Twitter. I just used it. Took about 10 seconds for it to return my timeline to me. Here are your options:
- Followers
- Favorites
- Friends
- Your Tweets
- Everything!
Their reasoning behind creating this handy device? (From their “What” page)
- Twitter may lose followers again like it did in June / July
- You may change your Twitter name and want to re-follow the people you were following, and contact the people who were following you
- You may want to refer to an older Tweet – currently Twitter does not keep all of your older Tweets
- You may just like backing things up, ‘just in case’, like us
I agree, that whole mess in June was icky… But more importantly, now that Twitter disposes of your life’s work 10 pages back and beyond? The time to backup your Twitter-life is now! Often too at that. Too little too late for you looking for the archive pre-Twitter limitation though. Twitter should allow us to grab that considering the lack of warning. Bastards.
