Great WordPress Plugins

In light of boasting about Firefox’s great extensions, why not follow up with WordPress plugins that treat us right. Sociosophy isn’t the only blog we’ve stood up over the years; in fact, this is just one of the dozens of WordPress websites Sociosophy’s sponsor, Aten Studios, has created. As I’m the owner of that as well, here’s a little list of things I found that rock.

I also encourage you to leave a comment of your favorite WordPress plug-in, especially if you’re a developer of your own. We like finding new toys to play with at Sociosophy, give us things to mess with! Please?

In no particular order:

  1. Sociable: Nothing helps cure a good post like spreading it… or is that a cold? Whatever, this handy little gadget allows you to have links from your favorite “spread the word” sites pretty much wherever you’d like them to appear. I’m a huge fan of the “Tweet This” icon, personally.
  2. Disqus: Though I’ve heard some bad, in terms of spam, about Disqus, I have yet to experience it. Then again, our comment base is… light. But regardless, the fact that Disqus can be displayed in FriendFeed, supports threaded comments, supports video comments, nd is just as customizable as the rest of WordPress via CSS? I’m happy with it.
  3. All-in-one SEO Pack: Jeepers Creepers, of all the things you can add to WordPress, a typically heavy SEO friendly platform, why not add more SEO control? In fact, you can even turn SEO off on specific posts, that’s pretty awesome.
  4. Google XML Sitemap: Troubling thing about a blog, getting an up-to-date site map to stay up-to-date. With the Google XMS Sitemap plug in, let the data to the work and give yourself more time for important things, like baking cupcakes.
  5. InlineRSS: Check these out (tumblr and lifestream), yea they’re a little retarded, but that’s my own doing. The fact that InlineRSS allows me to do that neat bit of retardation is most excellent though. Think of all the fun you can have with a little bit-o-RSS.
  6. Random Redirect: Ok, let’s say you started your blog a year ago, and you’re off to a slow start, but your content has been great from the moment you started… or at least, you think it is. Well? Random Redirect is a simple function that merely kicks a click to whatever post it picks. [/poem]
  7. Simple Tags: I ignored tags for a little while because I’m a dumb ass. When I started, I realized the following, “Crap, I need to do this to every post… Grrr!!”. After kicking a few things over in the office, I decided to search for “Simple Tags” and behold! It was a plug-in for WordPress. I’m happy. Bulk moderating of tags, AJAX features for auto-complete on new tags, tag suggestion from Yahoo, Local & the Intartubuals, most excellent.
  8. Twitter Tools: If you blog, you should have Twitter. If you don’t… why? Twitter’s awesome for maintaining and gaining Internet dollars; oh and from my experiences using Twitter, I’m more likely to click a link in my time line than in an email or whatever else, so if for nothing else, use this plug-in for me.
  9. Related Posts: See “Simple Tags” up there? Yea, in order for this to work, you should look into using that. It’s not required, obviously, but if you’re like me and didn’t tag your stuff? Well, you’d be assed out without a … um… yea.

Did I miss anything?
