Ya know? We’ve never reviewed Facebook… Though I think the site we’ve come to know as the “Second Coming Social Network” has been getting TONS of press lately, and well? Though we have a tendency to give more love to microblogs, social sites and random apps? Consider this our doodad on Social Networks.
Ok, so what’s awesome about Facebook? Let’s start with the newest:
Facebook Connect: This sucker hit the Washington Post, it’s that awesome. Yes Twitter’s been there as well, but this is simply so awesome that we have to overuse the word awesome to describe how awesome we think this awesome doohickey is. The Washington Post said it best in the first paragraph of their news article, “Facebook launched its Web-wide sign-on system, Facebook Connect, on Thursday — and let me tell you, this thing has the potential to simplify and enrich social networking in a revolutionary way.”
What’s it do? Well, it’s a single sign on method… yea, you can use your Facebook creds to sign into stuff. Think of it like OpenID, only a hell of a lot less confusing, and a hell of a lot more consumer-friendly. Sorry, I’m a developer, and OpenID is confusing… to me… and I love the concept, just hate the implementation.
Facebook Applications: This is one of the main reasons we signed up on Facebook, to review apps. Facebook apps are widely used bits of social funnery that we feel people should hear about when we see about a new one we dig. Ya dig?
Facebook Photos: Sue me, I like the interface for uploading photos. Yes, it’s Java, but it’s worlds better than MySpace. If it were like Flickr’s interface on the other hand, I’d be happier than a clam drinking a beer while watching the Dolphins win [/pun].
The friend adding interface is great, the friend suggestion feature is so accurate it’s creepy, the apps and other things CAN get annoying from time to time, but there are useful apps on Facebook, you just have to find the handful that rock through the oodles that blow.
What are your favorite things about Facebook? Do you have a favorite App? Leave a comment or five, we’ll check out whatever you suggest!
