Chris Brogan – Blogger Week
Chris Brogan, Social media business strategy - http://www.chrisbrogan.com/
Sociosophy: “What was the reason you started to blog? What keeps you going?”
Chris: “I started in 1998 to be heard. I wanted to express my interests, to share my writing, and to connect with like minded people. Those reasons haven’t changed, though the subject matter has. My blog is part of what has brought me 100% of my business for the last few years, through speaking and consulting projects.”
It’s funny… If you read Chris’ about page, it has a sub-section “What Chris Has Done”, and reading through the list, followed by “Disclosures and Relationships”, I think it’d be easier to ask: WTF hasn’t Chris done? To make it all better, he’s a down-right, honest-to-goodness, whole hearted blogger that expresses himself very clearly, and with a community-centric motive that’s rarely overlooked by the web community, and it shows.
Chris Brogan’s experience in social media spans the past 10+ years, and in Internet-years, that’s an eternity. I’m not sure how many of you readers were around pre-dot-bomb, but the times were thriving, and then they were far from it in what seemed to be “the blink of an eye”. To stick through all the fallout from the bubble bursting of Web 1.0 takes honest dedication, knowledge and drive. I’d say Chris’ online following, reach, and influence is testament to that.
Hey, business people, perk up:
[Chris Brogan]works with large and mid-sized companies to improve online business communications like marketing and PR through the use of social software, community platforms, and other emerging web and mobile technologies.
Here’s how our virtual interview with Chris Brogan turned out:
Socisophy, “How many hours a week do you spend thinking about blog posts and writing?”
Chris, “I write daily, sometimes several posts a day. I think about writing all the time, so I’m an anomaly. I snap photos that make me think of blog posts, and I write lots of pieces that I can use for later publication. Hours and hours.”
Socisophy, “If you could change one thing about your blog, what would it be?”
Chris, “I wished I’d named it something other than my name. That blog’s doing fairly well. I’d love to add in a few more writers, and then sell it to a huge media company or something. I can always keep writing.”
Sociosophy, “What’s your favorite Social Media outlet other than your blog?”
Chris, “Twitter, without a doubt. It’s fast, lightweight, flexible, multi-use, and allows me fast access to people who matter.”
Sociosophy, “Do you think Twitter and FriendFeed contribute or take away from your blogging?”
Chris, “Twitter has more than doubled my blog traffic year over year since I got on a few years back. If I didn’t have Twitter, I’d have thousands fewer readers a day. It’s the “director’s cut” to my blog thinking, and people feel like they participate.”
Honestly, I didn’t think that Chris would have the time to respond to our virtual interview questions so quickly, but I’m glad he did. He’s an excellent and positive energy online, and should you have a chance to see him talk – make sure you don’t miss the opportunity.
If you don’t read Chris Brogan’s blog, you should. You can also find him on Twitter at @chrisbrogan. I’m taking “Twitter is a Director’s Cut to my Blog Thinking”… Yep, totally stealing it.
