The following is a list of new things done to make Sociosophy that much neater:
Polls (wp-polls) - After searching through a variety of plug-ins available for WordPress posts, WP-Polls was found to be the most robust, with the most amount of customization, and looks very clean out of the gate as well.
Meebo Me! - Geesee was ALMOST used, but without paying $14.95 - people would have had to put up with ADS?! Lots of lost respect for their efforts there. Also, it turns out that Geesee doesn’t present an intuitive way to alter the look and feel of their chat - perhaps that’s a feature for those who are willing to fork over the cash. So… MeeboMe is the winner.
Tumblr page - The review of Tumblr is coming soon. In the meantime, I’ve added my personal tumblog, and hope that you enjoy reading it.
Blog Roll Updated - Barcamp San Diego II is right on our heels. Also - Enrique Gutierrez ~ Photography has been updated to point to the site, not the blog - I realized I hadn’t updated that since… July? yikes! I need to get on that… so many things to say about my photography adventures.

Badoo is a social network with some interesting trimmings. The image viewer is filled with AJAXy goodness, and a voting interface, for those of you who need reassurance from people you’ve never met that you’re either ugly or attractive. The messaging interface is chat based, which is a hell of a lot more intuitive than Facebook or MySpace… and I think the whole profile set up is straight forward, hell I spent 7 minutes on it, and had it all loaded down with more info about me than anyone would ever want to read.
From what I can tell, the site is geared toward sharing photos and making social connections quickly. There are areas for comments and there are some Internet-popularity-contest components, if you’re into that sort of thing; but all-in-all, the interface is VERY fast and well done.
Key features:
- Full featured Friends organization with custom folders options
- Lightbox-like photo viewing
- Thumbnail resizing with a slider
- “Entry”(public message) creation with quick sharing
- Customizable interests and information
- View profile visitors
- Ranking system
- Chat-based messaging
- On-the-fly traffic conter
- Personalized URL
There are about 12 million users, globally, making this site less bloated than MySpace or Facebook, making it a much less spam loaded experience. Done.

Ever wonder what it would be like to have up to the second communication about your findings on the web with your cronies? Browzmi is an online social networking core that allows you to do just that - without the use of IM applications, micro-blogs, or any of that other … stuff.
The website is currently invite only, so I’ll have to post a review about the features after I play with the site for a bit, but from what I can tell, the premise is very strongly reliant of a mass community following and like-minded individuals, who don’t mind yet another form of communication on the Internet. The good thing is, this is centralized, and immediately accessible from your browser space.
I just hope it includes features for RSS, or other integrated goodness, such as Digg, Stumble Upon, or other Social Bookmarking sites that I still haven’t even started to cover… I slack.
—- UPDATED —-
Thank you Browzmi staff for the invite to your application. I’ve played with it for a few minutes now, and I have to say, it works very well, and is loaded with features that make browsing more informative, interactive, and extremely Web 2.0.
Features:
- Add comments about posts and sites
- Tag sites
- Save to a list of published, shared favorites
- Write a mini-post on a page
- Add a Like or Dislike to a page
- Find related flickr photos
- Find related videos
- View tags and comments posted by others
- Find/Add Friends
- Communicate with contacts
Whew… the only things I would like to see, and perhaps it will happen, is for this to turn into a tabbed browser interface, and an AIR application - which would be most awesome, but it’s inclusive and extremely beneficial browsing in terms of reading immediate reviews, posts, tags, etc… In fact, it’s like Digg on steroids, in a sense.

BabyNamey… This is an AJAX rich interface for those of you pregnant folk out there, or if you’re just interested in selecting the names in advanced of your future unborn offspring, though I’m not certain that’s a good way to not freak out potential victims… errr… future dates.
Anyhow, the features here are pretty slick - and standard AJAX for Web 2.0 goodness; limit the search by sliding the popularity tool, then also sex and nation… nifty. There isn’t a social networking aspect to this site, at all - not really sure why there ever would be, so that’s a bonus - no need to log in, no need to create a profile… you can’t save favorites, unfortunately - but then again, a text editor and some good old fashioned copy and paste never killed anyone.

Web developers… Your cross-browser compatibility nightmares have come to an abrupt end.
Browsershots is an online application that provides testing of your code for different browser engines, on different OS platforms, and provides you with screenshots of your website. Verify CSS styles, Java script, Flash… I’ve been hoping for an application… a FREE application like this for a very, very long time, and I wish I knew about it sooner.
They cover all of the major browsers in all of the major platforms, Mac OS/X, XP and Ubuntu. There’s nothing more I can say about it, this utility works, it works well, it works fast, and it’s downright awesome. Where the hell was I when this thing was launched?
