Vimeo

Until recently, I never really concentrated much on streaming video quality on sites like YouTube… staring at overly compressed videos, jumbled with pixelated boxes and blending shapes into one another, as far as I was concerned, it was video on the web, and lots of it - therefore it’s neat! But the quality is a tiny little box on the screen, compressed and quite oogly. Want pretty? Hit Vimeo. Vimeo is a higher definition video streaming service.

Limited to 500MB a week, you’ll still want some level of compression on your videos, unless you don’t mind making them extremely short, but it’s so much prettier. Larger viewing areas, cleaner site interface, better video quality… Kind of like Hulu.com, but for YouTubers who demand not looking like a bunch of mashed pixels.

From their about page:they currently have only 730,000 users … which is a good amount, but they’re not a giant behemoth like YouTube with their 43 gazillion users… weird, the content on Vimeo is better as a result too, but don’t let the Google know I said so, they’ll probably deny me access to the series of tubes that make up their Internet and force me back into the dark ages… the Prodigy Net & CompuServ ages.
