First off, thanks to Jeremy from funadvice.com for the heads up on his site. Immediately, the main area of focus I can see on FunAdvice is “people”; there are people everywhere! In a social network, the people are kind of important, ya know? Some helpful features to keep you active on the site are:
- A public timeline of active questions, much like Twitter’s, but neater
- Cloud-grouping of topics on the site
- RSS! I love me some RSS.
- Create a Blog Widget
You can also manage your interests, add/remove photos, there’s a messaging system “Fun Mail”, and comments are allowed on profiles. Account notifications are delivered through email, and to me? That’s a little “eh”, only because I hate email clutter from sites - then again, I’m a member of every site I’ve reviewed, so I obviously get a ton of emails from the webosphere already, and probably have a biased against it.
Things I would actually LOVE to see on sites like this are SMS integration - that’s gotta be the numero uno piece of awesome in Twitter that we don’t get enough of on other sites, but I can see why this wouldn’t be something easily (or cheaply) integrated. Overall though, the site’s interface is very clean - somewhat more cluttered than most Web 2.0 sites, but it appears that this site’s been around since well before the Two, the Point, or the Oh were really a craze phrase.
