Whrrl
Google maps + Web 2.0 goodness + SMS goodness = Whrrl. It’s pretty simple really, go somewhere, have fun there, come home, log into Whrrl, find it, and write a little review on it… I thought “Microsoft Streets” when I first saw it, being able to store all your reviews, and what not - but, there’s of course the Web 2.0 aspect. That’s right, social network. Really, folks, is there a better way of raving on about a pancake house, than with your Whrrl friends? … In short, the answer’s “No”. Features:
- Search for places
- Search for near by places
- Read reviews from others
- Befriend those others
- SMS Support
- Send photos of a place from your phone
- Checkout a place on your phone
- Find places “near” somewhere
- and… FAST
- Seriously fast
- I’m still searching for the RSS Feed, but wouldn’t doubt it to exist… or soon will.
Honestly, the SMS features are literally the most bad ass features I’ve seen so far on any Web 2.0 site available, sorry Twitter. They have more SMS commands than you can shake a stick at… hell shake the whole damn forest at it, and you still won’t cover it. Here, try this:
- Don’t forget your mobile info
- (Watch how quick the SMS gets sent to your phone)
- Input the confirmation number
- Reply to the Whrrl number with “starbuck near 5th and Market” or wherever you are…
Within a few seconds, you should have a list of the starbucks near you, with their phone number and address… very rad.
