Klok

klokNow that I’ve covered two Twitter-esque clients from AIR, I’m going to cover something actually useful toward being productive with your time in terms of billable hours. If you’re in project management, any kind of contract/time-based freelance work, or if your job holds you over a clock on fire for 8 to 10 hours a day while they whip you from the edge of your windowless cubicle in that hell of a 9 to 5 you call a job; Klok is your friend.

So, what’s it do? It keeps track of time. Pretty straight forward right? Yea… but what’s it also do? (more…)

Posty

postyFrom sitting and staring to flat out going post-it mad with contribution goodness, Posty is an AIR app designed by SpreadingFunkyness to allow you to post to not one but four microblogging services, seperately.

Awesome, right?

The important thing here to address is how much better Posty handles FriendFeed than Twhirl. I’m not sure how many of you actually use Twhirl for FriendFeed interaction, but the fact that the scroll wheel on my mouse is utterly useless with the application, I use Twhirl solely for Twitter, and switched to iGoogle for FriendFeed interaction. So there’s a win. (more…)

Absolute Need-to-Have Firefox Plug-ins

At Sociosophy we spend quite a bit of time not only using the web, but developing and designing parts of it. Part of our passion and reason for our quest is not only to find neat things on the Interwebs, but to also maintain that drive and motivation from other great ideas we witness every day in exploring new technologies, new ideas, and… you get the idea.

As Web Developers and Web Designers, we find certain things you just gotta get for your Firefox browser to extend it’s capabilities and make you that much better at doing what you do.

The assumption here is that if you’re a developer/designer, you use Firefox. Chances are if you do any web development, you either have access to, or use, more than one browser to test your work… If you don’t? Shame! Go download stuff. (more…)

Apptism

Ok all you iPhone people, I know pretty much zero about iProducts in general. I’ve never seen iTunes, don’t own an iPod, can’t really stand the iPhone (though they’re fun to play with), and don’t really see a need to jump on the Apple bandwagon anytime soon, simply because I enjoy my Win-based products and applications. That said, when I saw Apptism I must say – this site is put together really well.

  • Fast access to iPhone apps? Yes
  • Easy to understand interface? Yes
  • Cool looking useless stuff that plays off the Accelerometer? Yes
  • Good selection? Yes – 3900+ apps, not bad
  • Affiliated with Apple? No – says so in their disclaimer :)

I’m sure there’s Apple-based stores, owned by the “Might White Apple”, but an alternative is a good thing, from what I gather, being a non-conformist doesn’t really fit in to the Apple business model, but here’s a chance to break the mold of Apple Store, iTunes, App Store, Woohoo, etc.

Someone with an iPhone, give Apptism a spin and let us know what you think.

Movino

MovinoIf you have a Java enabled phone and want to broadcast video over WiFi or 3G? Well… Movino is a little bit of an answer you may want to explore. I’ve been using Qik for the Nokia N95 for about six weeks, and it’s awesome, but it’s only for S60 handsets… leaving those of you with video capabilities on your cells without the coolness of an N95? No fair.

I installed this on my phone in about 2 seconds, after checking the FAQ and a little happy go clicky trial and error for a few things. SourceForge… I don’t really like the site, but we have to use it from time to time. Anyhow, this app is pretty buff. As stated in their FAQ, it was developed as a class project, looks like. Doesn’t really say much for support of the project, but this app is pretty striaght forward. It doesn’t attach to a sign-on service, like Qik (which I’ll do a write up for), but it does allow you to have some streamy goodness if you have your own stuff… web server, etc.

The site has tons of great documentation, and a great philosophy about their code… you know… Open Source? So you can check out their stuff, and hey, write stuff to it, make it more awesome, less awesome, etc. You kids with your Open Source goodies know the drill. Anyhow, mix this with the Twitter API on your web server, and you have yourself you own mini-Qik… Give or take.

How about one of you kiddies with a J2RE (Java) enabled phone give this thing a whirl, huh? Lemme know how it works for you – if it does.
