Smeepe

smeepeI have a small, probably absurd, but reasonable prediction.

It is possible for a search engine to know too much; and by too much, I mean, “The Google”. I use it every day for everything, but when it comes to finding local businesses? I usually go to Google Maps first, but lately it’s been Yelp, because I end up there anyway. Same thing for movie information, IMDB directly, instead of Google. Google’s great for information digging and burrowing, but when it comes to searching for things you already know there are sites for, I believe that niche market search engines and sites are going to be a big part of how it’s all done.

Now, I’m not saying there will be a Puppies Search Engine and a Balloon Animal Search Engine, but Yelp, IMDB, and the sort make sense of their existance because they’re loaded with info and more narrow in terms of what you can search for. So, Smeepe makes sense, kind of. (more…)

buyitsellit

buyitsellitAh, the world of the Internets and making money in it. Commerce has been the life and death of many companies on the web for the past decade, easily. The first dot com bubble was so big and awesome that geeks got to work while sitting on love sacks, listening to live sax, coding in a state of … relax. I made a poem!

Anywhat, BuyItSellIt has got to be one of the simplest interfaces I’ve ever seen for making green-backs on the web. Small businesses and bead shops from around the globe should rejoice in awe at how simple they made this for everyone.

This white-labeled eCommerce solution is full featured filled with fantastic fun for the whole family. Stats, product management, super simple implementation, clean execution… I’m not talking some clunky “look at me! look at me!” Cafe Press crap, this is a real deal for all you aspiring online entrepreneurs looking to turn your “whatever” into products, self hosted, not relying on E-Bay’s wonderfully massive (sporadic) customer/user base to get you monies.

I’m gonna use it on a site for Genevieve Chappell here in a few days. So that’ll be awesome. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Gixaw Chat

gixawchatOnline chat is a thing. It’s always been a thing. In fact, chatting with others over the wire was the thing before blogging, e-commerce, 2.0 anything was the thing. The fact that online chat keeps getting better and better is a good thing. So this Gixaw Chat thing I came across earlier is a neat looking app.

Signing up takes about… 10 seconds. Pick a name, type in a few fields, and like magic, you have a chat room. In fact, I even gave it a whirl and I threw it in the nav up there… see it? No? Then click HERE and have a peak.

Tweetj

tweetjThere are approximately 8,721,098,789,809.4 Twitter related sites and applications available on the Internet. Posting to, aggregating from, advertising from, shortening URL’s for, integrating with… But at the end of the day, it’s all about the music.Being a fan of listening to new tunes myself, I find that sometimest. Lasfm, Pandora, and Blip.fm are just too many sites to go to for stalking what others are listening to. I need a powerful search tool. In fact, I don’t even want to have to search, I just want to go to one place & see what’s happening in music: Tweetj fits that.

Tweetj is like this oober aggregating search site that data-streams mustic tweets. My two cents? The site’s ugly, but it sounds pretty awesome! (more…)

Google Voice

google_voiceHere’s something I don’t understand, besides “The Google” in general. Google Voice is a telecommunications service. Remember GrandCentral? It’s a phone number, voicemail service doodad that Google acquired a long time ago.

Why the heck does a search company that makes revenue from advertisers need a telecomm branch? Hmm…

Well, after some thought (about 4 seconds, actually – which is an eternity for some people), I remembered this article (link), here, in case you don’t want to click through to CNET:

Google has elevated the profile of its attempt to make videos searchable through speech recognition technology, a move that portends a potentially more financially successful YouTube division.

The speech recognition technology was used in an online application that let people search political speeches launched in July, and now the Gaudi (Google Audio Indexing) project has an official interface at Google Labs.

So, to speculate on my own, I’m saying that looks and feels a hell of a lot like an incentive to get into telecommunications for Google. I mean, who wouldn’t want to better target ads based on speech? That’s where the true person lives, emails and search strings include alter-ego’s and false courage. But voice!? Voice is where the real us is. (more…)
